This page brings together three virtual exhibition spaces, each offering a different approach to the work of Josef Volsa under the name Artis Umbrae.
The rooms are not intended as a linear sequence, but as independent situations. Each follows its own conceptual and formal setting — and requires its own way of viewing.
Opera Nova presents the most recent series.
The works shown here have been completed only recently. They mark a current state of the work — not as drafts or intermediate steps, but as finished, deliberately defined positions.
Opera Electa brings together selected works that currently carry particular weight.
This room is neither an archive nor a retrospective, but a conscious selection. The works are placed in relation to one another, forming a shifting constellation in which meaning emerges through their interaction.
Extra Umbrae is reserved for works created outside the Artis Umbrae context.
It reflects a photographic practice beyond this system — images shaped by different conditions, different questions, and different formal approaches.
They represent a second field of work: personally defined motifs, independent decisions, and a selection of images that stand apart from Artis Umbrae. This also includes works that demonstrate photographic craft in its clarity.
These works remain deliberately outside the structure of Artis Umbrae and are not integrated, but presented as independent positions.
All three rooms are subject to change.
The works shown are replaced, rearranged, or recombined at irregular intervals. The exhibitions are therefore not fixed presentations, but evolving spaces that can be entered again and again.
If you are interested in works from Opera Nova or Opera Electa, further information on the respective series can be found on the website.
Inquiries regarding pricing, acquisition, or gallery collaborations are welcome.
The works shown in Extra Umbrae are not for sale.
This room offers insight into an extended photographic practice.
If this leads to interest in projects in this direction — such as food photography or boudoir — I welcome your inquiry.
