Vestigia – What Remains

Our feet carry us through life. They support us, set us in motion, hesitate at a threshold, or leave a familiar place. Most of the time, we notice them only when they hurt or can no longer carry us. Yet they speak of something that reaches far beyond the body: the way we stand in the world.

The series Vestigia – What Remains explores feet as an expression of inner states. Standing, choosing, leaving, and staying are physical actions, but also decisions that shape our lives. Where do we find support? Which direction do we take? When is it time to leave? And what remains of us after we have left a place?

The Latin words written on the skin give these questions a visible form. Their uncial lettering connects the living body with a tradition of writing that has endured for centuries. The words name an action while leaving its meaning open. Standing can convey security, but also immobility. A step can mark a new beginning or a farewell. Staying can express attachment, as well as the difficulty of letting go.

Light and shadow draw attention to posture, touch, and the marks on the skin. The tight framing reveals little of the person beyond the image, leaving room for our own memories. The feet thus become a symbol of a shared human experience: we seek our place, move onward, and leave something behind — in spaces, in relationships, and in the memories of others.

Stare – To Stand

Standing means bearing weight and occupying a place. The image asks about the support we find and the stance with which we face life. Between a firm footing and quiet tension, the moment remains open: is it rest, or a pause before the next step?

Eligere – To Choose

Every direction begins with a decision, even when it is barely visible at first. The body may already be preparing to move while we are still weighing our options. Eligere explores this moment between possibilities, when a thought gradually becomes a path.

Abire – To Leave

Leaving changes our relationship with a place and with the people who stay there. A step can mean freedom, loss, or both at once. The image holds this moment of transition: the familiar is still close, while the body is already moving away.

Vestigia – Traces

Wherever we go, we leave traces. Some are visible and soon disappear; others endure in memories, habits, and encounters. The image turns towards this quiet presence of the past — towards what remains of a movement long after it has ended.

Manet – It Remains

Not everything leaves with us. A touch, an experience, or the memory of another person can remain even as life moves on. Manet closes the series with an open question: what carries us forward, and what do we carry within us?
